Tour overview
With mighty Tarangire first on your list, world-renowned Serengeti sandwiched in between and gorgeous Ngorongoro Conservation Area with its incomparable crater as your finale, this four-day safari around Tanzania’s beautiful Northern Circuit will provide a fabulous insight into the incredible landscapes and wildlife of the country
Embarking on our journey from Arusha, we will collect you from your hotel promptly at 8 am. Our destination is the remarkable Tarangire National Park, renowned for its diverse landscape boasting nine distinct vegetation zones. The park’s iconic Ancient Baobab trees, the largest on the continent, dominate the scenery, casting a majestic presence over the wildlife below.
As we meander through the park, the river teems with life, from a vibrant array of bird species to the regal lions, elusive leopards, graceful zebras, towering giraffes, sturdy buffaloes, agile antelopes, and the beloved elephants. In fact, Tarangire is celebrated for harboring the largest concentration of elephants in the country, offering unparalleled opportunities to observe the intricate dynamics within elephant families.
Our lunch spot is nothing short of spectacular, featuring an observatory with sweeping views of the river and its inhabitants, often presenting guests with the thrilling spectacle of a hunt unfolding as they enjoy their picnic. Before retiring to your accommodation, we’ll embark on an afternoon game drive to further immerse ourselves in the wonders of Tarangire.
Following an early breakfast, we set forth towards the renowned Serengeti National Park, hailed as the most famous park in the world. The journey itself is a spectacle, traversing the crater highlands with a brief stop at the rim for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Ngorongoro Crater, an awe-inspiring moment for first-time visitors.
As we delve deeper into the Serengeti, the meaning of its name, ‘endless plains’ in the local language, becomes evident. Encompassing 6,900 square miles (18,000 sq. km), the park’s vast plains seem to stretch infinitely to the horizon, challenging our senses and perceptions of distance. Home to the Great Migration and approximately 2 million wildebeests, hundreds of thousands of zebras, and an array of antelopes such as the ubiquitous impalas and Thomson’s gazelles, the Serengeti never fails to impress.
This park is a prime location to seek out the Big Cats and other formidable predators, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas. Countless television documentaries, including the famous river crossings, have been filmed in this remarkable landscape. Smaller creatures such as foxes, mongoose, honey badgers, jackals, monkeys, baboons, rock hyrax, African hares, and over 500 bird species also call the Serengeti home.
We recommend an early rise to catch the animals at their most active during an exhilarating early morning game drive, offering the chance to witness one of nature’s most captivating sunrises.
Following the game drive, we return to camp for a delightful brunch before continuing our journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, often referred to as the 8th wonder of the Natural World. The crater spans an impressive 102 square miles, with towering walls reaching 2,000 feet, creating a veritable Noah’s ark hosting nearly every indigenous East African wildlife species. It stands as one of the rare locations on the continent where the elusive black Rhino can be observed.
The diversity of African wildlife within the crater is unparalleled, boasting a river, numerous swamps, a soda lake adorned with flamingos, lush forests, and expansive plains. Ngorongoro is renowned for its awe-inspiring elephants, the largest on the planet, distinguished by their formidable tusks—a result of the nutrient-rich volcanic soil and abundant grasslands. Truly a testament to the wonders of the natural world, Ngorongoro Crater promises an unforgettable experience, culminating in a memorable sundowner as we arrive in time to witness the day’s end.
With the dawn of a new day, we descend into the depths of the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a day of unparalleled wildlife viewing in one of Earth’s most extraordinary locations.
After a picturesque picnic lunch near the hippo lake and further exploration of the crater’s wildlife in the afternoon, we ascend the steep crater walls, bidding farewell to this natural marvel. Our journey then takes us back to Arusha, concluding our adventure filled with cherished memories and a profound appreciation for the magnificent landscapes and wildlife of Tanzania.
